The Treasured Lamp Oil
"And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually." -Exodus 27:20 NKJV
Yesterday while at work, I began to read the bible via Bible Gateway online because I didn't have time to do so before I left home. I could already feel myself beginning to get anxious and upset about a situation, so I figured rather than grabbing a snickers, I needed to read the word to calm me down (Lol). I began to continue with where I left off in my daily reading and quickly came across this scripture, which immediately stood out to me. It was the perfect reminder that what we may be going through now is producing something so much more everlasting than we could ever imagine.
Two weeks ago someone asked me "what is the significance of olives in the Bible?" I replied that they were used to make oil but required a lot of crushing in order to do so. They asked "so does that mean that we are the olives?" I responded "yes!", but moved on and didn't really think much more of our brief conversation. The following week I found myself facing situations that brought about frustration, worry, and stress. I prayed, counseled with leaders at my church, and even tried to give myself a few pep talks to diffuse my nerves, but it seemed as though my nerves was on edge. After reading this scripture, a light bulb went off in my head and provided me the peace and assurance that I had been desperately waiting for.
Sometimes God places us in situations so that we can produce a oil that will cause the light within us to shine continually. He does not want our emotions to be on a constant roller coaster ride. He want consistency. A consistent flowing oil comes from a consistently pressed olive. Pressed olives produces a certain type of oil that cannot come from any other place and it gives light to a lamp that cannot be put out or hidden by any man. Our situations are not eternal, they are the temporary push that we need to give way to more light! :)
