“No soldier in active service gets entangled in the [ordinary business] affairs of civilian life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve” -2 Timothy 2:4
Have you ever found yourself so deep in a situation that you can’t figure out how you’re going to get out of it or how in the world you got there to begin with?! Those situations usually start when God whispers in our ear and tell us to do something, stay away from someone, or most notoriously not giving ear to something. However, we don’t listen and choose to do things our way and in the process dig ourselves a ditch. Then, we get into the cars of our lives, take the wheel and drive ourselves right into that ditch!!
God has a peculiar way of teaching us through our disobedience. Namely, when we are involved in things that we shouldn’t be involved in. For example, when that office co-worker comes to you to complain about “Negative Nancy”, or when you decide to go to that event that EVERYONE has been raving about for weeks, but you know that God has been telling you and showing signs that you shouldn’t go. When we follow that voice inside (also known as Holy Spirit) and don’t allow ourselves to get caught up in everyday concerns, we will find that our name will magically stop appearing in “he said/she said" rumors at work and we are no longer stuck at the wrong place at the wrong time.
God never created us to blend and to be like everyone else. There may be others that He allows to do certain things, but when you try to do those same things you feel that He is telling you that you cannot be involved. You are a chosen vessel that He wants to pour into for his glory. So if you are always with everyone and doing everything that they are doing, your light will become dim. Don’t be afraid to be different. Stand apart even if it means standing alone, because the world needs you!
