“Now if we put bits into the horses’ mouths to make them obey us, we guide their whole body as well. And look at the ships. Even though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines. In the same sense, the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things”. - James 3:3-5
For the past few weeks there has been a few resounding messages that have been reigning true in every sense. One has been the importance of obedience, the other is the power we have in our tongue.
Earlier today I was doing my daily reading and came across the above scripture. It stuck out to me in so many ways, because it places into perspective how our words not only affect others, but also our growth or the lack thereof. When we allow ourselves to talk down to others and/or our own abilities, we are basically steering ourselves in the wrong direction. It also causes others to not see the full glory of God within us, because we are limiting our abilities.
When we speak words that uplift others and the name of God, while also declaring great things over our life (even when we can’t see it in the natural), we are steering our lives in the direction that God has for us.
God has a plan and purpose for our lives, however, our words will determine if we actually walk into our destiny. Let’s choose our words wisely and walk into our promised land together in unity!
