The Gardener & God
"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase." -1 Corinthians 3:6-7
Have you ever been in a place where you felt as though you’ve reached a plateau? You sowed into your business, your relationship with God, your friendship/marriages, but still felt as though things were still in a "blah" state. We’ve all been at this place at one point in time, but a good thing to remember is there’s a way to move forward and it’s through understanding your role and God's role in your life.
During my daily reading I came across this scripture. It stuck out to me because it was confirmation of how little of our life we have control over, and how God is always our leader and guide in life. So often we find ourselves worrying about how small (or sometimes seemingly large) situations are going to play out in our lives. This can come from sowing so much of ourselves into a particular idea or job and neglecting God. The flip side is we can include God into every part of our life and wonder why we haven't seen the blessings that we have prayed for. Ultimately, God is saying that we can plant as many seeds as we want and water them often, but at the end of the day HE is the one who will bring the harvest in HIS timing. This is not to say that he does not want us to plant seeds, but that we should understand that the reward in our planting will come when He feels that we are ready...not when we feel that we deserve it. God knowswhen we’re able to properly steward his blessings, so he isn't going to give it to us before that time.
As we’re waiting for God to bring the increase we should continue to serve him as as though we’ve already received it! If a child ask for a certain amount of money from their parents for a concert, but was told to wait and if they moved forward in doing their chores, helping their parents and doing good in school without getting an attitude I'm sure their parents would not only give money for the concert, but extra for spending. That is how God is with us! When we trust him and his timing and continue to serve and obey him regardless, we will find that the increase in our harvest will come sooner and with more than we could imagine!
