The Voice Within
As a blogger, there are many times that I find myself taking pictures in unique places and not so pleasant weather. When it comes to my blog shoots, I have always had an "anything to get the shot" mindset. This mindset has taken me to bank rooftops, hidden waterfalls, abandoned tire shops, and Soho back streets in the middle of a snow storm. Although all of the experiences have served me a lesson (and lots of laughter) in some way, it was my most recent photo shoot that took me to school and gave me a reminder on the importance of perspective and declaration.
On this past Sunday at 8:00 in the morning, I stood outside of the World Trade Center with my photographer, Monica Deldoc, and prepared to take a few pictures. It was 35 degrees and windy. Although the sun was peaking through the trees, it wasn't providing much warmth for me in my outfit which comprised of a crop-top hoodie. I took off my coat and proceeded to pose for pictures when my teeth started chattering and my hands started to feel numb. I tried to push the thought of the weather out of my mind, but the more I felt the goosebumps rising on various parts of my body, the weather became more of my focus than taking pictures. I was about to take a quick break to put on my bigger coat when Monica stopped shooting and said "It is soooo hot out here! Isn't it?!" She could tell that the cold was starting to show on my face and wanted to lighten the mood. I immediately said " Si!! Es muy caliente!!" I raised my hands in the air and in my mind I started dancing around the Sahara desert! In that moment, I decided to listen to my mind and my words rather than my body and my environment.
Later that evening, a friend tells me that she felt so empowered due to hearing a great word from our Bishop regarding the importance of listening to the Holy Spirit within us rather than our body. He shared that we ultimately have control over our body and can tell it what to do and how to feel. Her words were like the perfect slow song in my ears and such a beautiful confirmation of what happened earlier in the day at the photo shoot. God was reminding me of that message and made a point to re-iterate.
There will be days that you want to give up on people who you feel have given up on you. There will be situations that are out of your control and decisions you have to make that appear too much to handle. God has given us a guide for our life called the Holy Spirit; He lives within us and helps us in every aspect of our lives. He is always speaking to us and telling us what to do, but we must stay in tune and listen. When He gives you a word that doesn't appear to solve your current situation, believe it and declare it! We have the power to overcome any and every obstacle according to that little voice inside of you (also known as Holy Spirit), all we have to do is believe it !! :)
