“Then Moses turned again to the Lord and said, “O Lord, why have You brought harm and oppression to this people? Why did You ever send me? [I cannot understand Your purpose!]” - Exodus 5:22 (AMP)
Have you ever found yourself in a place of simply not understanding your calling? Has God given you a command to do something, yet you don’t understand why he asked YOU to do it! You feel completely unqualified for the mission/task and begin questioning if God made a mistake in choosing you. I’ve felt this way more times than I care to admit and was recently speaking to a friend about this exact topic. During my study time I came across the above scripture which helped me understand why we may sometimes feel this way and how we can instantly shut down those thoughts as soon as they creep into our mind.
Moses was called to do something HUGE….it was a task that many would say was intimidating, uncomfortable, and seemingly having no chance of a successful outcome. His task was to tell Pharaoh of Egypt to free all of the Israelite slaves so he could lead them out of Egypt and into their promised land. This man had a speech impediment which caused him to stutter and he was also hiding from the Egyptians for killing one of their workers. However, God knew Moses was the perfect candidate to free his children! There were many times Moses would cry out to God and ask how was he going to complete the task. God heard his cry and showed him that it wasn’t anything that he was going to do in his own power, it would be through his obedience and trusting in Him. For example, Moses told God that he wasn’t able to speak eloquently because he stuttered (as though God didn’t know that), and God brought Aaron to translate for him. Moses didn’t know how he would prove to the Isrealites that he was called to lead them out of captivity when Pharaoh and his army was on their heels, so God parted the Red Sea. He was not working in his own power, but by the power of God.
Whatever task God has have given you, understand that if He called you to do it, he will give you what’s needed to complete it. You may feel that you aren’t qualified, but know that the moment God ask you to do it, he qualifies you! Your success is not based on anything that you can do in you own power, it’s based on how obedient you are to do what God tells you to do. You cannot fail!
